Our History

The Church was originally built as a Methodist Church and John Wesley preached here on several occasions.

However, due to a decline in numbers, the Church had to be sold and was purchased by Kings Community Church Brandhall in February 1990. The Church ran happily alongside Kings Community Church for a number of years but then on 25 July 2012 George Road Community Church became autonomous. The Church had a small burial site surrounding it and its garden management was left to a goat, named Amy, who ate her way to keeping the garden grass nice and trimmed! However, we no longer have the goat but we do have a dedicated gardener who works hard on the upkeep of the garden, which has won a number of awards.

Due to the age of the building at the time of it being bought, there was a lot of refurbishment that needed to be done. There were only two toilets which were both outside and quite a distance from the main building which, in the colder months, was not pleasant. In order to comply with the Disability Act 2004 we urgently needed to review our building layout and decided to build an extension that would enable us to house internal toilets and improve the facilities of the Church.

Our Mission & Vision

We are passionate about seeing the community coming through the doors of George Road Community Church.

Located at the heart of Warley, the Church has continued to serve and provide a warm welcoming venue for the Community and beyond, offering a diversity of established groups and activities.

We also used this opportunity to build a Community Hall to increase growth and development of our community projects. This gives us the privilege of being able to provide various programmes and clubs from young people to elderly people and from knit and chats to indoor football tournaments. We are passionate about seeing the community coming through the doors of George Road Community Church.

The Church is situated on a main road with popular bus routes and we have a small car park with extra parking space on the roadside. There are three schools in the area, ranging from infants to high school and a range of different public services such as a library, doctor’s surgery, pharmacy, parks and woodlands.

Worship and Church Life

Our Sunday morning services may follow a structure but are relatively informal. A 10.30 start gives people the chance to have a relaxed start to the day and we aim to finish at 12, just in time for lunch! We have an average of 40 people attend each week, a number of whom serve before, during and after the service to help things run smoothly. We always pray to invite the Holy Spirit.
